How to Play Human Minefield

Learn how to play Minefield, a communication game and team building challenge about trust, listening, and giving clear instructions.
In Minefield, one player is blindfolded and has to cross a field of objects without touching the “mines.” Their partner stands outside the field and guides them using only words. No touching is allowed.
You can use cones, cups, shoes, or any soft objects as mines. Give every pair three to five minutes, then swap roles so everyone gets a turn.
3 variations:
1. More or Fewer Mines
Make the exercise easier with fewer objects and more space, or harder with 40 to 50 mines placed closer together.
2. Memory Minefield
Let the blindfolded player look at the minefield for 10 seconds before putting on the blindfold. Then the guide may only correct them when they are close to a mine.
3. Everyone Gives Instructions
Instead of working in pairs, let the whole team guide one blindfolded player through the minefield. Everyone is allowed to give instructions, but the team has to coordinate their communication. This version quickly shows what happens when people talk over each other, give unclear directions, or do not agree on a plan. Afterward, discuss how the team could communicate more clearly.
Debrief questions:
Which instructions were easy to follow, and which were confusing?
What did you do differently the second time?
