Fun Team Games – The empty chair
This is one of our fun team games in which one participant plays against the rest of the group. The goal is to prevent that walking participant from sitting down by taking a seat before he can.
They can successfully do this by working together. When two or more participants stand up from their seats only one can take the chair the ‘walker’ is approaching while the rest has to quickly decide where to sit down. This seemingly easy exercise will turn out to be quite difficult when put in practice! The exercise will teach the team how to intuitively make quick decisions as a group.
Multiple variations can be applied to the Fun Team Games exercise.
- As soon as the exercise becomes too easy for the team you can instruct the walker to speed up the tempo! This will make the exercise more challenging for the rest of the group.
- To turn the exercise into a little competition the trainer may count how many times the group switches seats every time there is a new walker. The faster the walker can take a seat the fewer points he has. Eventually the one with the least amount of points win. Make sure everyone gets a turn. Now you can crown a winner!
- To make the exercise a bit more interesting you can turn up some music! Not only will this add more rhythm but it will also help the group to react quicker on their impulses.
