Active Games – The Snake

This is one of our active games in which the team will form a snake by walking around in a line. The first person in the line is deciding which way the snake goes. He goes on for one minute. When you clap your hands the first person connects to the end of the line, so automatically a new person becomes the leader for a minute. The team proceeds doing so just as long until everyone has had the turn to lead the snake and the first person is back on the leading spot again. Next to leading the way, the first person will now also add movements which the other persons in the snake will copy.

During the active games exercise you can apply variations:

  1. Let the team vary in tempo. Let them walk in slow motion and also run.
  2. Next to movements, the leader can also add sounds which the others will copy.
  3. If it’s a big group, so a long line, you can instruct the leader to cross the snake two or three times time shortly after each other. This way the group have to pay close attention to keep the snake run smoothly.
  4. Put some music on! The team can move and/or make sounds on the music’s rhythm.

Do you know a good active games variation?
